Retirement Annuities

Immediate Annuities – The Real Truth Concerning Retirement Annuities
Visit: http://www.AnnuityShoppersAid.com It’s amazing that immediate annuities are still being sold in the 21st century. Immediate annuities earn an internal rate of return (on average) of 65 basis points—that’s less than 1%. Money markets have better returns than an immediate annuity.
But what’s really wrong with these products is the annuitization of the actual annuity product. Let’s say you choose life annuitization. That means that the product will give you a payout for your entire life. What the salesperson avoids telling you is that if you die in 30-days, your spouse will get zero… Yes, nothing. The annuity company insured your life, however long your life lasted. Let’s say you invest $100,000, and your first check (and last check) is $350. Your wife would receive NOTHING after you died.
Agents always argue the following point: well, the annuitant/owner can choose an annuitization called “life with period certain” (such as 10-year period certain). In this option, instead of getting $350, you get $290 each month (as example), and if you die, your spouse will get $290 for 10-years.
The better the annuitization option, the smaller your monthly payment, which makes this product redundant, since you need a maximum monthly income stream throughout retirement (not a smaller one).
Another important point about immediate annuities is the accounts do not grow with time. Once their principal is annuitized, the account balance does not earn any interest, and quite often, the total income paid will not equal the initial investment starting principal. Example: You invest $100,000. Your monthly income from this product is $290 a month. Your life expectancy is 25-years. Total payout over 25-years is $87,000… Not a good deal for the investor.
Another unusual point concerning annuitization is the annuitization of deferred annuities. Example: Let’s say you purchased a deferred annuity earning 4%. Your annuity agent coaches you into annuitizing the product for an income payout. Now your deferred annuity is turned into an immediate annuity earning 65 basis points (less than 1%). It’s amazing this is legal! The insurance company makes all the money and pays pennies on the dollars to the investor.
Would you invest your hard earned money in this product? I think you already know the answer to this question.

Annuity Markets $99 The Pension Crisis concerns the changing demographic profile of more elderly and fewer young people in the economy. Understanding and tackling this impending crisis is a key task for public policy. An annuity protects an individual from outliving their savings, and is central to pensions policy. This book examines the different types of annuities available, how these annuities are priced, the history of annuities, how annuities markets function: how they work, and are they efficient. It provides an international comparison of annuity markets, and examines recent developments in annuity markets.Governments around the world are shifting their pension policies away from pay-as-you-go systems towards individual savings schemes. These savings need to be converted into a pension at retirement, and annuity markets provide this function. This book is a comprehensive study of annuity markets. The book starts by outlining the context of public policy towards pensions policy. It then explains the different types of annuities available, focusing on the US and UK, and how these annuities are priced, examining pricing and reserving methods from an actuarial perspective and also describing mortality measurement. The next two chapters describe the history of annuities, and the experience of annuity markets in countries other than the UK and US. The book then outlines the theory behind annuites, and explains how annuities insure consumers against longevity risks. The next chapter describes how annuities markets function: how they work, and whether they are efficient, leading onto a discussion of the annuity puzzle. The book concludes by discussing recent developments in annuity markets. |

Buckets of Money: How to Retire in Comfort and Safety $24.95 Many people head into retirement assuming they will have enough money to live on for the rest of their lives. But when issues such as inflation and taxes come into play, their financial cushion can become so thin that they may have to cut back drastically on their standard of living or go back to work just to survive. Don’t let this happen to you!Nationally recognized Certified Financial PlannerTM and radio personality Ray Lucia has helped thousands of people improve their financial lives over his thirty-year career–and now, he has transformed these experiences into a program that will allow you to enjoy a comfortable retirement without worrying about your money running out. In Buckets of Money®: How to Retire in Comfort and Safety, Lucia provides you with a smart and conservative way to protect and grow your nest egg. With this book as your guide, you’ll learn how to achieve both income and growth, while reducing risk.In an easy-to-understand and accessible style, Lucia outlines his proven "Buckets of Money" technique. The concept behind Buckets of Money is amazingly simple. You match your assets to your liabilities. If you need income today, that’s a short-term liability (Bucket No. 1) that requires short-term assets, such as CDs and Treasury Bills. If you want inflation-indexed income tomorrow, that’s a mid-term liability requiring a match of mid-term assets, such as bonds and certain kinds of annuities, in Bucket No. 2. If you want your money to grow over the long run, that’s a long-term liability to be funded with long-term assets, such as stocks and real estate, in Bucket No. 3. Because you’re buying time with the income from Buckets Nos. 1 and 2, your Bucket No. 3 can grow without the worry of market volatility. Using many examples of "Buckets" in action, Lucia details the investments that are best for each Bucket and illustrates how to modify the Buckets system as your situation changes.
